In September a team of designers will create runway-ready couture from Lamin-Art’s architectural surfaces.
ATLANTA, GA 09/17/13 — Project Runway meets Interior Design during the 4th-annual International Interior Design Association (IIDA) Georga Dressed competition. Pairing Atlanta’s most talented interior designers and architects with industry manufacturers, the event challenges 20 design teams to construct a runway-ready, couture garment made almost entirely of construction finish materials.
But that’s not all: This year’s theme, Dressed in Seasons: thru World-Changing Events, gives the competition another twist. Featuring events ranging from the Great Depression and WWII to the green movement and advances in social media, the themes range from dark to optimistic.
“The theme will definitely make the designers—as well as the audience—think outside the box,” says Pam Robinson, one of the designers competing in the event.
As one of 50 sponsors, Lamin-Art is working with two design teams.
“Lamin-Art is one of the event’s Spring sponsors, as well as a design team sponsor,” says Tara Harris, architectural representative for Lamin-Art and Industry IIDA. “Our involvement also includes donating large samples of material to the teams, including our Metal-Art and our Premium Wood Prints. I’ve seen the sketches and they’re beautiful!”
Among the other products that designers will use to construct their garment are wall coverings, floor and will tile, carpet, vinyl, rubber base, contract furniture, paint and more.
Established to promote the creativity of the architectural and design community, the Dressed event has become the IIDA Georgia Chapter’s largest annual event. And while the event will be a unique way to network and showcase manufacturers’ material, it also acts as a fundraiser, benefiting Dressed for Success.
Nearly 600 people in the A+D community are expected to attend the fashion extravaganza at the Atlanta History Center on September 26. Guests will sip on beer, wine and signature cocktails and enjoy hors d’oeuvres gratis.
IIDA is a professional networking and educational association of about 13,000 members in 10 specialty practice forums and 29 Chapters around the world. IIDA represents the interests of the entire A+D community, and strives to create a strong niche for the most talented interior design professionals, to elevate the profession to the level it warrants, and to lead the way for the next generation of Interior Design innovators.
