Lamin-Art Launches New Green Initiative
At Lamin-Art, we've always believed in doing the right things for the right reasons, each and every time. It's the philosophy that guides our research and development of new products, as well as the relationships with our employees, our customers, and our suppliers. We employ those same values with respect to our planet.
We are proud to announce the launch of our eco-enable project. The goal of the project is to not only promote the "green" nature of our high-pressure decorative laminates, but to serve as an industry leader in advancing sound environmental stewardship in our manufacture and business practices. "To us, sustainability isn't just a good marketing angle or a sound business decision; it's also a critical adjustment of our mindset as responsible members of the greater global community," says Donald Krog, owner and president of Lamin-Art.
As a company, we've already identified several initiatives that we've put forward to protect our environment, including GREENGUARD Certification of our entire high-pressure decorative laminate line. We are also donating discontinued sample chains and chips to local design schools rather than adding them to the waste stream, and we've converted our entire fleet of corporate vehicles to hybrid cars for cleaner, more fuel-efficient transportation of our sales force and executive management.
With the initiation of our eco-enable project, we are also instituting an internal corporate "Green Team." This committee, made up of cross-functional members of our staff, is tasked with brainstorming new and innovative ways to support environmental initiatives at our corporate offices, to support the efforts of our supply chain in promoting their own sustainability programs, and to lead the way for change within our industry as a whole.
We'll feature new eco-enable project initiatives and updates from the Green Team in upcoming issues of The Source. In the meantime, learn more about the project at www.laminart.com/eco-enable.
Lamin-Art Introduces New 'Greener' Exhibit
Trade show displays can be tremendous resource hogs. The public often doesn't see them; they're only used a few times per year in different locations which, in turn, requires installation, dismantle, packing, and shipping; and they have a relatively short lifespan. However, the face-to-face marketing and sales opportunities that trade shows offer are valuable business development tools for any company.
In designing a new trade show exhibit for 2008, Lamin-Art tried to be mindful of the environmental impact our display and exhibition schedule would have. With some help from our friends at Outhouse Design and Production Plus Technologies, we were able to develop an exhibit which showcases both our premium decorative laminates and our commitment to sustainability.
The exhibit, which made its debut at Global Shop 2008 in Chicago, utilizes a structure composed chiefly of recyclable aluminum and engineered wood, which saves aging forests.
The paint used in the booth is both water-based and low-emitting. Rather than purchase new paint, Productions Plus utilized product that had been leftover from previous projects, thereby eliminating waste. All surfaces showcase interesting applications of Lamin-Art's collection of high-pressure decorative laminates, all of which contain 40% pre-consumer recycled content and are GREENGUARD Indoor Air Quality Certified®. All signs and graphics in the exhibit were printed using Production Plus' eco-friendly printer which utilizes non-solvent based and UV cured ink.
In addition, Lamin-Art selected eco-friendly modular carpet and cork flooring tile products that are manufactured from either recycled or rapidly renewable resources. By purchasing our own flooring solution, we also eliminated the waste generated by the on-going rental of rolled carpet goods.
The new Lamin-Art exhibit can next be seen in Atlanta at IWF 2008, August 20-23. To see where else we'll be in 2008, see our Trade Show Schedule.

We're busy gearing up for another trek down south to Atlanta for the bi-annual International Woodworking Fair. IWF 2008 will be held August 20-23 at the Georgia World Congress Center in downtown Atlanta. Lamin-Art will be exhibiting in Building A at Booth #2526.
Stop by to learn more about low VOC emission regulations going into effect next year in California, known as the CARB rule, that will have a major impact on our friends in the woodworking and fabrication community. And don't forget to ask one of our staff members for a very stylish Lamin-Art baseball hat. See you in Atlanta!
