New AIA/CES Approved Course Available

We are proud to announce that the American Institute of Architects has recently approved a new CES course to be offered by Lamin-Art.

LAM002 - Specifying Melamine Pre-Finished Wood Veneers offers an overview of wood-based surfacing materials currently available on the market; highlights the nature, features and benefits of melamine pre-finished wood veneers; and walks attendees through several installations. The composition of the product, suitable substrates and adhesives, special precautions to be taken when specifying and working with melamine pre-finished wood veneers, as well as the specifics of actual applications are also discussed.

The one-hour course, valid for 1 General Learning Unit (1 LU Hour) can be presented by all Lamin-Art representatives.

Learn more by visiting the AIA’s online course directory, or contact your local Architectural Representative to schedule a presentation.

Our Summer Travel Plans

The Lamin-Art team will rack up the miles once again this summer, but not for some much deserved R&R! We will rather be presenting our products at a series of local and regional events.

Read on, or check out our online calendar for an event near you.

July: Denver and Minneapolis

The NEWH Denver regional trade fair will be taking place at the Hyatt Regency Denver at Colorado Convention Center on July 27th (next Tuesday) starting at 12-noon, with a chance to grab a cocktail and chitchat with peers starting at 5pm. More than 75 companies will be showcasing their offerings. Register to attend.

The IIDA Northland Chapter will be hosting MinneCon on July 29th (next Thursday) at The Depot in downtown Minneapolis. Get a chance to see our latest products and/or discuss your projects with Sarah Chiger, our Architectural Representative, at booth #404. The vendor fair will start at 11 am, and you can enjoy cocktails and some fun from 5:30 to 7pm.

August in the Southwest: Dallas and Phoenix

We will try to beat the heat with some very cool products, first at METROCON10, being held at the Dallas Market Hall on August 12-13. Our local Architectural Representative, Brooke Phillips, and our National Sales Manager, Curtis Nyssen, will be on hand to discuss your project related needs and answer any questions you might have pertaining to our products and their use in commercial interiors.

The Reference Library Trade Show will take place concurrently with the AIA Arizona State Conference at the Sheraton Wild Horse Pass in Chandler, on August 19. Meet our representative, Eileen Walker, and learn more about the products and services offered by our friends of The Reference Library.

Kick It, Dallas! Cocktail Party

For those of you attending METROCON, this year’s IIDA Houston City Center’s cocktail party, sponsored in part by Lamin-Art, will be held at Perry’s Steakhouse and Grille.

Recognized as one of Texas’ premier steakhouses, Perry’s owes its elegant look to the expertise of Identity Architects of Houston, TX.

Take a look at their photo gallery to admire the dark tones and rich materials that were selected to help create an upscale venue with a unique personality, including our 7962-Premier Ebony

Premier Ebony

So dense it actually sinks, and prized for its intense dark coloration and fine grain, Ebony is recognized as one of the most noble of wood species.

Few know however that almost 500 species of deciduous and evergreen trees are found under the Diospyros genus, and that the Ebony and the Persimmon trees (found in North America) are related.

The use of Ebony for music keys and fine objects goes back thousands of years: small carved pieces made with the deep black Gaboon species (or African Ebony) were found in Egyptian tombs; and the word is derived from the Ancient Egytian “hbny”.

As a result of unsustainable harvesting, numerous species of Ebony are now considered endangered. While the unique properties of Ebony cannot be replicated with a man-made material; natural looking, economical, and durable alternatives can be found in our Premium Wood Prints line, namely the 7962-Premier Ebony and 3041-Zanzibar Ebony.

The first displays the natural coloration and striking black, dark brown, and light tan stripes of the Macassar Ebony; while the latter pays a tribute to the sunny skies and warm climate of Zanzibar with golden and reddish undertones.
