Lamin-Art by land, sea, and air

Lamin-Art has a reputation for offering the industry's most eclectic collection of printed wood grain interpretations ranging from exotic and endangered species to more traditional domestic variations.  As a result, we have become a favorite choice among designers of transportation interiors including private and business class aircraft, luxury yachts and cruise ships, and high-end motor coaches.  It's an industry that requires special attention given the demanding nature of their clientele and rigorous safety standards that these vehicles must meet.

In order to best service this industry, Lamin-Art has established a Transportation Interiors Program.  In addition to a staff specialist trained to answer technical questions and assist these clients with sample requests and orders, we have also refined our standard line of laminates to meet the needs of this industry.  These products are manufactured with added durability to withstand the wear that results from regular use and routine maintenance.  The products also meet or exceed the standards of federal fire retardancy requirements and are offered in a high-gloss finish option which really makes these interiors pop.  As with all of our high-pressure decorative laminates, there are no minimum order requirements, and delivery is quick-often less than 2 weeks for most orders.  To learn more about our Transportation Interiors Program, contact Matthew Guillaume or call 800-323-7624.

Green plays big role at HD Expo

The economic downturn has meant reduced occupancy rates for many hotels and resorts.  As a result, hotel values have dropped and the hospitality industry is in a state of flux.  Hotel companies looking to survive the downturn are seeking ways to dramatically improve their efficiencies and reduce operating costs.  Many of them are looking to the green building movement to help achieve these cost-savings.  According to a US 2009 lodging report released by Ernst & Young, green hotels are gaining momentum with hundreds of projects either achieving or having registered for LEED certification with the US Green Building Council.  Look for this number to increase even further as federal stimulus money for green building projects becomes available, local governments begin requiring large carbon footprints such as convention centers and urban hotels to cut their emissions or face financial penalties, and LEED standards for hospitality become a reality later this year.

For the third year, the Hospitality Design Expo will host a Green Day conference on May 13th, one day prior to the start of the annual exposition.  This conference has quickly become the industry's leading event for education, information, and marketplace trends related to sustainable design and operations.  If you're planning on attending the HD Expo this year, make sure you check out the Green Day conference for the latest on green hotel building and operational trends.  Also, be sure to stop by Lamin-Art's booth (#1454) to see all of our Greenguard certified high-pressure decorative laminates perfect for sophisticated and contemporary hotel and restaurant interiors.  The HD Expo takes place in Las Vegas May 14-16.

Second Lamin-Art rep earns LEED AP

Lamin-Art is pleased to announce that yet another of our Architectural Representatives has achieved LEED Professional Accreditation.  Chicago-area representative Christine Murray recently earned the LEED AP and is now the second member of our team of local Architectural Representatives to join this group of sustainable building experts.  LEED APs must demonstrate a thorough understanding of green building practices and principles, and are well equipped to successfully manage building projects through the LEED certification process.  As a LEED AP, Christine is uniquely qualified to assist specifiers in determining how Lamin-Art high-pressure decorative laminate can contribute to a building project's overall green building strategy.  To date, more than 75,000 people have earned this credential since the LEED AP program was launched in 2001.  For more information on Lamin-Art's contributions to LEED projects, download our LEED Requirement Information sheet.

Enabling Green: Tip #7

It's spring cleaning time in most households.  This year as you look to weed out your closets, garage and other storage areas, think before you pitch your old, unused items in the trash.  Look for ways that either you or someone else could re-use them.  After all, your trash may be someone else's treasure:

Hold a garage sale:
it's a great way to let others re-use your old items while making some extra money for you and your family.  Don't have enough time to have a garage sale, sell your stuff online with sites like EBay or Craigslist.  To save money for items that you need, shop other people's garage sales.  You'll be amazed at what you may find.

Organize a community swap:
designate a place where you and your neighbors can leave unwanted items for others to use.

Donate your old items to charity:
think outside the box. Consider donating extra clothes hangers to shelters, art materials to a local school or park district program, and old magazines to health care clinics or doctor's offices.
